Part 1: Multiple choice in PDF C1 USE OF ENGLISH PART 1
1 POINT PER QUESTION
In this part of the exam there are 8 gaps in the text. You need to choose the best option of A-D. This is mainly a vocabulary based exercise; based on word patterns, phrasal verbs and fixed expressions. But there is an element of grammar with the use of relative pronouns, quantifiers and cohesive devices being important.
The best way to do this part of the exam is to ignore the options A-D. Read the text, predict the meaning of the word in the gap and then compare it to the options. When you have discarded the obvious incorrect answers, look at the words before and after the gap and decide of the prepositions indicate the answers (word patterns) and the other words can give you an idea of the context to be able to choose the correct collocation. The difficult part about this section is that some of the answers are based on context and you either know it or you don´t.
