Speed dating is a great activity for incorporating new vocabulary into your speaking. It can be done as a group activity or in private classes. The only material needed is a vocabulary list and a stopwatch.
The great thing is that it can be adapted to almost any topic: free time, work, education, travel, people, places, time, the environment, crime, technology etc.
I would recommend mixing two typical ESL activities (one minute topics and time´s up! HERE) to make the best use of the vocabulary. The activity requires two people, one person to speak and the other to take notes and score. The speaker should speak for one minute about a specific topic, such as travel. They can discuss a context such as “My last trip”, “My next trip”, “A nightmare trip” or “A dream trip”. Or we can also talk about education: “The last course I did”, “My next course”, “A terrible course I have done” or “The best course I have ever done”. This way the speaker can talk easily for one minute about it.
The winner is the person who get the most points!
