The next word in our vocabulary boost series is HANG. HANG is a high frequency verb that can be used as a synonym of wait, hold, spend or place. There are numerous collocations and phrasal verbs that are formed using HANG.

VOCABULARY BOOST- HANG

Collocations:

To learn new collocations and word patterns you should create phrases using them and also do exercises (HERE)

Hang the washing

Hang in there – be patient

Hang on a decision – depend on a decision

Hang with your friends – spend time with

Be hung for a crime – be executed

Hang your head in shame – feel ashamed

Get the hang of something – learn how to do something

Hang a left – turn left (USA)

 

Phrasal verbs:

The learning of phrasal verbs is best done using this method (HERE)

Hang on – wait

Can you hang on a minute?

Hang up – put down the phone

After we finished the conversation, I hung up

Hang out – spend time with

I really enjoy hanging out with friends

Hang around – to wait for a long time

I wouldn´t like to hang around for ages

Hang on to – hold on to

If you have a bit of spare cash, it is a good idea to hang on to it

Hang back from – restrain from doing something

You ought to hang back from criticizing your workmates in public
